Bulgaria’s 18 MEPs have supported the idea put forward by the Bulgarian media to raise funds for a modern AIDS treatment center in Benghazi, BNR informed.
At a press conference in the European Parliament in Strasbourg the MEPs expressed joint expectation of the medics’ close release, and stressed that after the drama comes to an end they will not forget the innocent victims of the humanitarian tragedy in Benghazi.
The Bulgarian MEPs described the idea as “a national cause that unites them without any political affinity”. They all hope Wednesday’s court sitting in Libya will send the long-awaited positive message.
Evgeni Kirilov from the Bulgarian Socialist Party has stressed that while the Bulgarian media unite to help the epidemic’s victims and present all points of view in the trial, the Libyan media have not given the other opinion even once over the eighth years of the trial.
Since the media in Libya are not independent, how can I believe the court is independent, the MEP asked, stressing the case is a political one and the Libyan authorities bear the entire responsibility for its end.
Only Dimitar Stoyanov from the Attack party expressed reserves towards the idea to raise funds. According to him the totalitarian regime in Libya can build it on its own thanks to the revenues from commerce with France, Italy and the USA, which apply double standard and go on developing economic relations with Libya.
