Victims of lung cancer, their families and supporters are being invited to contact the Cancer Council Central West today.
Phone lines will be open until 6pm this evening giving callers access to experts and survivors to give advice and information on the disease.
138 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in Western NSW every year and 113 of those will die.
The Cancer Council says that many of the symptoms associated with lung cancer tend to be overlooked and often by the time diagnosis occurs the disease is well advanced.
Symptoms can include a new or changing cough along with hoarseness; shortness of breath, recurring episodes of lung infection; weight loss and swelling of the face and arms.
Lung Cancer has long been associated with smoking but according to Marion Carroll, Regional Program Coordinator with the Cancer Council it can occur in non smokers too.
