San Antonians Wheezing With Bronchitis

Shortness of breath, fever, and wheezing. Those are just some of the symptoms plaguing some San Antonians with bronchitis.

Bronchitis is causing trouble this week on the north and south sides of town. Bronchitis is an infection of the bronchial tree, which helps to carry air into your lungs. Wheezing and coughing, especially at night, is a symptom. Call your doctor if symptoms last more than two weeks.

The northwest side is seeing an increase in upper respiratory infections. Upper respiratory infections, also known as the common cold, are caused by a virus. Symptoms include a sore throat and headaches. Drink plenty of fluids and get some rest, you should feel better in about a week.

A large number of stomach flu cases were reported this week on the east side of town. Experts say the stomach flu, or viral gastroenteritis, is contracted when you come into contact with someone else who has it or when you eat contaminated food or water. Doctors say it normally goes away on its own.
