THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has hailed the Uganda Program for Human and Holistic Development (UPHOLD) for implementing President Yoweri Museveni's directive on HIV/AIDS prevention in schools.
Representing the vice-president, Dr. David Muduuli, his principal private secretary, told participants at a conference held at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala on Monday that UPHOLD had done a commendable job in ensuring that children are sensitised on HIV/AIDS prevention.
Museveni initiated the Presidential Initiative on AIDS Strategy for Communication to Youth (PIASCY) to provide school children and teachers with information on HIV/AIDS prevention.
According to Dorothy Aanyu, UPHOLD's senior adviser on education, they procured and distributed education materials to 47 primary teachers' colleges, primary schools and the district education offices.
On Bona-Baggagawale (prosperity for all) programme, Muduuli said the Government would establish coordination and monitoring centres to ensure the public benefits from the scheme.
He advised the participants to advise the public to form groups and engage in large scale agricultural production so as to earn more from their produce.
Dr. Samson Kironde, the UPHOLD chief of party, said they have supported education activities in 34 districts. He added that they plan to improve the quality of service in primary education through an integrated education strategy.
