World Vision in HIV/Aids Campaign

Humanitarian organization World Vision has finished training 30 health community mobilisers to carry out an HIV/Aids awareness campaign in the district. The trainees are drawn from the sectors of Musenyi, Mwogo, Nyamata, and Mayange, and trained purposely to restore people's attention to and precaution against the scourge.

In an interview with Fred Mulindahasi Rafiki, one of the trainees and president of the association of community health mobilizers, he said the four-day training helped them to fight HIV/Aids stigma and discrimination among the victims.

"We shall use the knowledge to fight stigma and discrimination among the most vulnerable people living with the virus because stigma leads to depression and hinders people from seeking care and treatment," he said

He added that they would also encourage Aids patients to join associations of people living with the virus for care and would carry out mobilization and awareness campaigns among the youth.

Recent statistics indicate there over 1000 HIV patients in the district with about 350 on anti-retroviral therapy.
